Next Weekend On-Site Painting Courses will start on 11th January 2026

Due to the teacher’s personal commitment, the morning and afternoon sessions on 15 February have been rescheduled to 1 March. The time and topic will remain the same.

Hope you are all keeping well.

Due to the popularity of our painting courses, we are pleased to let you know that Guanghwa Bookshop has organised two more weekend on-site painting courses which will start on Sunday 11th January. 

• Both these courses will run every Sunday for six weeks, the venue is at the bookshop, and we will provide the materials.

Please note: these are TWO DIFFERENT courses. One runs in the morning. One runs in the afternoon. You may enrol in either course independently, and each six-week course is charged separately.

Course Fee Options:
Full six-week course: £96
Flexible option: £18 per session
Please note: the flexible option is for those who cannot commit to all six sessions. You will still need to book the dates and pay in advance to secure your place for the sessions you wish to attend. Drop-ins on the day are not available.

• The Morning Painting Course - Session One
• Beginner and Above Level
• Time: 11:30 to 13:30
• Topics: How to paint Magnolias (玉兰), Irises (鸢尾花) and Hyacinths (風信子)

• The Afternoon Painting Course - Session Two
• Beginner and Above Level
• Time: 14:30 to 16:30
• Topic: Horses (马), Lynxes (山貓)and Flamingos (火烈鸟)

• Dates: 11 Jan, 18 Jan, 25 Jan, 1 Feb, 8 Feb, 1 Mar

• Painting Tutor: Mr Jian Chu Xu
Mr. Xu started to learn Chinese calligraphy in 1980 under supervision of late calligrapher Mr. Laoyun Yu who was a famous Chinese calligrapher. Mr. Xu is the chairman of the Chinese Poetry Calligraphy & Painting Society of UK, Honorary Principal of Shifu Art College of China. He received an excellence award in the Chinese calligraphy competition UK in 2011 and a special award in the international Chinese competition in 2014.
