Two Special Calligraphy Workshops 24th and 31st January - How to write Chinese New Year Banners

Hope you are all well and have had a good Christmas.
We are pleased to let know that Guanghwa Bookshop has organised two special calligraphy workshops on Saturday 24th January and 31st January from 14:30 pm to 17:00 pm
Chinese New Year (year of the Fire Horse ) will fall on 17th February 2026, and we know many of you would like to learn how to write Chinese New Year Banners (揮春 Hui Chun) so, the topic will be on how to write Chinese New Year Banners. These calligraphy workshops are suitable for those who have done some calligraphy courses before and would like to learn more about art and culture.
Each of the workshops will run for two hours thirty minutes; the venue is at the bookshop, and we will provide the materials. At the end of the workshop, you will receive some handwritten New Year Banners from the teacher as a gift to take home as well as your own ones.
The cost for each workshop session is £25
Time: 14:30 pm to 17:00 pm
Dates: 24th January and 31st January
• First Calligraphy Workshop Session - Saturday 24th January from 14:30 pm to 17:00 pm
• Second Calligraphy Workshop Session - Saturday 31st January from 14:30 pm to 17:00 pm
Calligraphy Tutor: Mr Jian Chu Xu
Mr. Xu started to learn Chinese calligraphy in 1980 under the supervision of late calligrapher Mr. Laoyun Yu who was a famous Chinese calligrapher. Mr. Xu is the chairman of the Chinese Poetry Calligraphy & Painting Society of UK, Honorary Principal of Shifu Art College of China. He received an excellence award in the Chinese calligraphy competition UK in 2011 and a special award in the international Chinese competition in 2014.
To be able to run these two workshops, we will need sufficient students registering for it. Do let us know if you are interested attending the workshop(s). We think you will enjoy it.
