June is here again — Pride Month is upon us, and with it, welcome to our 4th Pride Mini Book Fair! This year, we'll be continuing the theme from our 3rd Book Fair: “Queer Reads, Cool Reads”——读书很酷！

Because books are simply awesome!! Reading doesn’t have to be artsy or heavy. It doesn’t have to feel like homework. It can be fun, weird, no label - just like queerness itself!

After three consecutive years of shining a spotlight on the history of Chinese-language queer literature, social sciences, gender studies, and feminist scholarship, this year we turn our gaze back to where it all begins — queer literature and storytelling itself.

Qiu Miaojin, Lai Hsiang-yin, Chen Xue, Yang Chia-hsien, Pai Hsien-yung, Kuo Chiang-sheng… We follow in the footsteps of these beloved Chinese-language queer writers — showcasing not only their most celebrated works, but also newly published anthologies, and pieces that were never collected or widely circulated during their lifetimes. We cast our attention across Chinese-language transgender literature, queer nonfiction, queer science fiction, and beyond. We extend our reach into the literature and translations of the Chinese diaspora and the broader ESEA community: here you'll find works by Qiu Miaojin in both Chinese and English, Ocean Vuong in both Chinese and English, and Indonesian queer author Norman Erikson Pasaribu in both Chinese and English, among others.

Whenever notable new arrivals come in, we'll update this page and our social media right away — so stay tuned!

At the same time, we are saddened to find that some of the books and works we have featured in previous years are now out of print. In response, we have added a "Showcase Only — Out of Print" category to our website. Our hope is that this can serve as a growing archive and spectrum of Chinese-language queer publishing history — a way to honour and make visible the efforts and contributions of the many people who have brought these books into the world: booksellers, publishers, authors, translators, editors, and all those who have dedicated their work to Chinese-language queer literature. It will also serve as a handy reference for readers looking to track down information about these titles.

Special Project

Who will send me the rainbow letter from beyond clouds?

At Pride Mini Book Fair 4.0, we also curated a special project as always! (It’s becoming our tradition now :)  We call it Who will send me the rainbow letter from beyond clouds? 

Sounds cool？There we go!

  • We've prepared plenty of bookmarks — each one already stamped with "读书很酷" — along with coloured pens and other tools, all ready for you. 

  • We warmly invite you to write on a bookmark: a wish for the Chinese-speaking queer community, a question or confusion you're sitting with, a hope or vision, or simply any experience connected to being Chinese-speaking and queer. You're welcome to sign your name, use a nickname, or stay anonymous — whatever feels right for you. 

  • If words aren't your thing, that's completely okay too! Feel free to express yourself through doodles, drawings, or any other creative form on your bookmark. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask our staff members. 

  • Once you've created your bookmark, we'll invite you to reach into our collection and draw a bookmark made by someone who came before you — a little something to take home. Your bookmark, in turn, will stay here for the next visitor to discover. 

  • Our hope is that through this small exchange, the scattered and individual lives of Chinese-speaking queer people can flow toward one another — offering support, resonance, and connection across distance. 

The thinking behind Who will send me the rainbow letter from beyond clouds?  was simple: as Chinese-speaking queer people living in diaspora, our voices are so often buried beneath layers of racial misunderstanding and stereotype. As immigrants, we frequently carry multiple, compounding pressures in our daily lives — and rarely, if ever, receive the kind of unconditional encouragement and support that others may take for granted from family or society. With Who will send me the rainbow letter from beyond clouds?, this interactive project, we hope to offer something different: positive, affirming feedback and encouragement for the Chinese-speaking queer community — a way for us to light up one another's lives.

Because just being you is reason enough to celebrate. 

Who will send me the rainbow letter is inspired by 李清照 Li Qingzhao’s lyric poem 《一剪梅 · 红藕香残玉簟秋》“Yi Jian Mei · Hong Ou Xiang Can Yu Dian Qiu”.李清照 Li Qingzhao’s sorrow and longing has been written in this poem: “Who will send me a silken letter from afar - far, beyond the clouds? When the wild geese return, their wings remind me of your writing, moonlight is filling the west pavilion.” (Original text: “云中谁寄锦书来？雁字回时，月满西楼”。 Translated by Yuwei YH.)

We hope that these bookmarks, small as they are, but also broad like the wild geese, carry letters and longing and blessings sent across ocean and lands — words from a faraway friend, finding their way to you. Just like the wild geese. And that whatever longing or uncertainty you carry may find an echo in return, and ripple outward into something new.

2026 Pride Mini Book Fair 4.0 Featured Event

As a special event for this year's Pride Month and Pride Book Fair 4.0, we are thrilled to welcome Oh My My, a London-based East Asian queer theatre collective, alongside At Once Productions, for a conversation around their OffFest Finalist production Be Gay, For God's Sake. Together, we'll explore the joys and sorrows, the connections and distances, of East Asian queer experience across generations.
